The library in question, located within the West Mall shopping centre, was officially opened on November 21, 1998, by Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Initially named Bukit Batok Community Library, it underwent a name change to Bukit Batok Public Library in 2008. Notably, in 2011, the library underwent renovations and became the first library worldwide to implement the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system. This system allowed for immediate book processing upon return, ensuring the borrowers' loan records were updated instantly through automated Bookdrops.
